Our Approach
Children at the centre of everything we do at FIT, planning for now and into the future, supporting the development of independence from children into adulthood. At the same time, we recognise that a child’s wellbeing is shaped by the people around them. That’s why we’re shifting our focus to include the whole fostering family and the wider network supporting the child — because when everyone is cared for, children thrive.Â
Every child comes with their own experiences, strengths and challenges. We take a trauma-informed approach that recognises the impact past experiences may have had, while focusing on helping children move forward and build resilience.
We take a holistic approach to fostering. The needs of children must be balanced with the wellbeing of the entire foster family, helping create stable homes where everyone can grow together.
At every stage of development we encourage children to build the life skills, confidence and emotional resilience needed to become independent adults and participate positively in their communities.
Our Principles
At FIT, the child is at the centre of everything we do, but we recognise that in order to function in society, children have to learn how live within a family. That’s why our foster parents and their families are equally important. We work holistically alongside foster families and professionals to provide stability, support and opportunities that help children grow in confidence and move towards independence.
